Kiryat Sport will have a 30,000-seat football stadium, sports arena, 150-room athletes hotel and 14,000 sq.m. of commercial space.
The Haifa municipality has approved the Urban Building Plan (UBP) to build Kiryat Sport at the southern entrance to the city. The $70 million complex will include a new city football stadium to replace the current stadium in Kiryat Eliezer.
Kiryat Sport will include a 160-dunam (40-acre) athletes hotel with 150 rooms and training facilities for visiting European football, athletics and swimming teams. The 30,000-seat stadium can also be used for concerts and other events. The sports arena will be suitable for ball sports and will have a swimming pool.
The complex will also have 14,000 sq.m. of commercial space. The stadium will be surrounded by income-producing properties, whose proceeds will repay the investment and finance maintenance costs.
KSS Architects Ltd. of the UK has been selected as the project’s architects. Entry to the stadium’s automatic gates will be by a smart card.
Haifa Mayor Amram Mitzna said Kiryat Sport will be a tourism and economic lever for the city.
