Telecom services software company Comverse (Nasdaq: CMVT) today announced that Cellcom, Israel's largest cellular operator, had selected a Comverse solution to enable multimedia messaging services (MMS) on its network.
Comverse said Cellcom selected its Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC), but did not disclose the value of the deal.
Cellcom CEO Dr. Yitzhak Peterburg said, "Comverse's solution is in line with Cellcom's strategic plans to launch advanced multi-media services, based on its GPRS network. It has the flexibility that meets our specific and demanding requirements for advanced media."
Separately, Comverse announced that its MMSC solution had achieved interoperability approval with Nortel Networks GSM/GPRS radio and core infrastructure equipment.
The company said that interoperability validation could streamline the integration of its MMS applications with Nortel Networks infrastructure, thereby helping wireless operators to speed up the time-to-market for MMS services.
Comverse chief technology officer Menashe Rothschild said the Comverse MMSC was the first on the market to get interoperability approval from Nortel Networks.
“This interoperability compliance approval further underscores Comverse's commitment to providing wireless operators with innovative messaging applications, assisting with a faster return on investment and a clear competitive edge,” Rothschild added.
