The Canadian-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation (CIIRDF) has approved C$2.4 million of investments in five projects. Two projects are in wireless, and one each in software, environment and optical packaging.
Chief Scientist Eli Opper, who heads CIIRDF, said the foundation launched a new strategy last year to promote joint R&D in technology fields important to both Canada and Israel.
Under this strategy, the first investment was in Optipec, a consortium that develops optical components equipment. Canada established a parallel consortium that will work closely with its Israeli counterpart, providing supplementary capabilities.
CIIRDF was founded in 1994 to promote R&D collaboration between Israeli and Canadian companies. Each country invested C$1 million in the foundation.
CIIRDF has approved 43 joint projects to date for a total investment of C$13.5 million. The foundation supports up to half the cost of the R&D projects.
