Histadrut opens campaign against economic plan

The Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) has declared unlimited sanctions and strikes.

Representatives of workers committees from all government ministries held an emergency meeting at Beit Hahistadrut last night. They decided to declare unlimited sanctions and strikes, except at hospitals, because of the security situation.

The Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) opposes the government’s economic plan. Histadrut chairman MK Amir Perez declared that he would act to foil the plan, because of the harm it causes workers and pensioners. No ministry will receive the public or answer telephones.

Customs offices are also participating, which will disrupt the registration and release of imports and exports. The Vehicle Registration office will not issue or renew drivers’ licenses. The Population Registrar will not will not issue or renew ID cards or passports

The Histadrut Teachers Union is also protesting plans to fire 6,000 teachers, by starting classes an hour late at 9 am.
