Applied Materials Israel fires 60

The company fired 70 employees six months ago. Applied Materials has 1,000 employees in Israel.

Applied Materials Israel announced today that it was laying off 60 of its 1,000 employees. The lay-offs are part of the cutbacks announced by it parent company, semiconductor equipment maker Applied Materials (Nasdaq:AMAT), which is laying off 2,000 employees, 14% of its workforce. This is the second wave of lay-offs at Applied Materials Israel. The company fired 70 employees six months ago, as part of an 11% cut in Applied Materials’ worldwide workforce.

Applied Materials Israel handles the company’s Process Digital and Control division. The Rehovot-based division is managed by Gilad Almogi. Applied Materials opened its Israeli branch in 1990, and has since acquired Opal for $110 million, Orbot for $175 million, and Oramir for $24 million.
