Fizzer computer virus reaches Israel

The virus, which spreads through e-mail and file exchanges, is liable to neutralize some anti-virus programs.

The Fizzer computer virus (also known as W32.HLLW.Fizzer@mm or WORM_FIZZER.A), first discovered last week in Germany, continues to affect computers around the world, and has spread to companies and private users in Israel in the past two days. Large-scale attacks were reported yesterday morning in Asia, the US, and Australia.

The major anti-virus manufacturers, including Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC), Trend Micro (Nasdaq: TMIC; Tokyo: 4704), and McAfee Security for Consumers, published announcements classifying the threat as moderately serious, but the spread of the virus in the coming days is liable change its rating as an e-mail threat. The virus attacks computers with Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) operating systems, from Windows 95 to Windows XP.
