Comverse wins follow-on order from Taiwan's MoBiTai

MoBiTai selected Comverse’s Intelligent Short Message Service Center to supplement their existing SMS system.

Communications services company Comverse (Nasdaq: CMVT) yesterday announced that Taiwanese mobile operator MoBiTai had selected the Comverse Intelligent Short Message Service Center (ISMSC) to supplement their existing SMS system and handle increased traffic. No value was disclosed.

Comverse recently announced that it provided MoBiTai with a Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC) and Mobile Data Gateway (MDG) to replace their existing gateway and enable their MMS service. The Comverse ISMSC system includes support for prepaid SMS.

"In order to address the still rapidly growing usage of text messaging services, we decided for a capacity expansion with the Comverse ISMSC. It gives us the flexibility and efficiency of dealing with even enormous peaks in demand," said MoBiTai executive vice president Dr. Michael Mertsch.

Comverse Asia Pacific vice president Yossi Shabat said, "Comverse is very excited about the opportunities for SMS in Taiwan and is pleased to be associated with MoBiTai, a major player in the market. We believe that our solutions will play a significant role in the development and success of SMS services in this region."

Comverse shares closed on Nasdaq on Friday at $14.31.
