Air Canada is increasing the number of its flights to Israel, after having reduced it, because of the security situation. The increase will take effect in the airline’s 2003-2004 winter flight schedule. On November 1, Air Canada will operate five flights on the Tel Aviv-Toronto route, compared with four hitherto. The airline will use Boeing 767-300s for the flights.
Air Canada has an agreement with El Al, under which the two airlines jointly operate three weekly flights between Canada and Israel.
Air Canada has no plans at this stage to put the Airbus 340 jet back on the route to Israel, nor does it plan to renew the Tel Aviv-Montreal route, which was canceled because of the situation in Israel and low demand.
Air Canada offers passengers from Israel a daily flight schedule enabling them to take connecting flights to dozens of destinations in Canada, the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands. Air Canada also rents 15 airliners from Arkia Airlines.
The agreement among the Palestinian terrorist organizations to halt attacks against Israel has revived the tourism and civil aviation sectors in Israel. Several leading airlines have announced plans to increase their activity on routes to Israel. Swiss International Airlines will put Airbus 340s on its route to Israel, British Airways plans to use Boeing 777s for its routes, and Cyprus Airways will use Airbus 330s.
