Shinui: Tax hike violates coalition agreement

The Shinui ministers said they would oppose any proposal to impose inheritance and gift taxes.

"Israel's citizens have worked all their lives to create a legacy for their children, not for the treasury," said Shinui ministers today, following reports about the Ministry of Finance's plans to impose inheritance and gift taxes. The Shinui ministers said they would oppose any proposal to impose such taxes.

Minister of Justice Joseph (Tomy) Lapid, Minister of the Interior Avraham Poraz, Minister of National Infrastructures Joseph Paritzky, Minister of the Environment Yehudith Naot, and Minister of Science and Technology Eliezer Sandberg said they consider the Ministry of Finance's plans a violation of the coalition agreement that stipulates that no new taxes would be imposed, except with the consent of all the parties to the agreement.

The ministers announced that Shinui had blocked proposals to raise taxes in the previous Knesset, and would do so this time, too.
