A survey of 19,000 tourists last year by the Ministry of Tourism showed that 92% of those visiting Israel had encouraged their friends to visit Israel. 57% of those concerned about security before their visit said that their concern had been unjustified.
The survey also found that 68% of visitors were worried about safety before their visit. 43% of those concerned believed their fears were justified. The tourists visiting Israel expressed satisfaction, giving their visit a rating of 4.2 on a scale going up to 5.
The visitors gave archeological sites a 4.3 rating, and tour guides a 4.4 rating. The average rating for nature and the environment, hosting facilities, restaurants, and security arrangement was 3.8. The rating for feelings of personal security was 3.7.
46% of visitors said their friends and relatives were a source of information for planning their visit to Israel, 13% cited travel agencies, and 9% mentioned the Internet. The main reasons for choosing Israel as a travel destination were: religion, education and training 46%, business and conferences - 31%, and visiting holy sites 7%.
