Dental imaging device developer MIRAS raises $1m

The company's device is designed to help dentists diagnose and treat dental problems.

Israeli start-up MIRAS - Mirror Imaging Solutions Ltd., a developer of dental imaging devices, has raised $1 million from private investors. MIRAS's investors include the Shalmor-Avnon-Amichay Young and Rubicam ad agency, Israeli and foreign dentists, diamond merchants, and industrialists. MIRAS told "Globes" that it now plans to raise an additional $2 million, at a $6 million company value, before money.

MIRAS is due to unveil its first product at the jubilee anniversary of the Hebrew University - Hadassah School Of Dental Medicine on Friday. The product, called MirroScope, is a miniature video camera place on the dental mirror, which transmits a 30 to 50-fold picture of hard-to-see areas of the mouth onto a monitor. The pictures can be preserved for documentation. The system can also vary the picture on the monitor in accordance with the location of the dental mirror, thereby enabling treatment from different angles.

The device is designed to help dentists diagnose and treat dental problems, by providing better control of the treatment and a more accurate image of conditions in the mouth.

MIRAS has sold ten units to date by direct marketing to dental clinics in Israel. The company plans to market its device in Europe, Australia, and Japan through local distributors, and in the US through a strategic partner. MIRAS has used the same technology to develop products for ear-nose-and-throat clinics and for veterinarians.

Dr. Zvi Rakocz and Ex Libris founder Ehud Arad founded MIRAS, which graduated from the Yozmot-Granot Initiative Center two years ago. Raffi Frank is the CEO. Based in Tel Aviv, MIRAS has six employees.
