Bezeq is predicting that for the first time, the number of new lines installed will be 50,000 less than the number of cancellations of existing lines.
The “Yediot Ahronot” Hebrew daily reports that the number of Bezeq (TASE:BZEQ) telephone lines will fall by 50,000 in 2004. Bezeq is predicting that for the first time, the number of new lines installed will be 50,000 less than the number of cancellations of existing lines.
The number of Bezeq lines has been falling for several years, but this is the first time that the company’s target is lower than its current number of lines. Bezeq has made no official announcement on the number of lines its expects for next year. Company sources explained that most of the decrease in the number of its lines is due to the great success of WOW, its high-speed Internet service, which make it possible to surf the Internet and conduct a phone conversation simultaneously. “Some people say it’s better to hook up to WOW and give up a second phone line, which they formerly used only for surfing,” the sources said.
