Elite Industries competed with Ludwig, Kraft, and Ashbury in the tender for the British supermarket chain.
Israeli food giant Elite Industries has won a NIS 10 million tender to manufacture bittersweet and white chocolate bars for British supermarket chain Sainsbury, Elite Industries CEO Giora Bar Dea and Elite Confectionery CEO Shaul Shelah announced today.
Bar Dea welcomed the signing of the deal with Sainsbury, and added that he hoped that cooperation with the chain would be extended to other fields in the coming months.
Elite competed in the tender against many international confectionery firms, including Kraft, German private label supplier Ludwig, and British chocolate maker Ashbury. Elite will manufacture the chocolate bars in its Upper Nazareth factory. Supply of the chocolate is due to begin in December 2003.
Sainsbury, Britain’s second largest supermarket chain after Tesco, has been operating since 1869. The chain has 500 giant stores all over Britain, 173,000 employees, and an annual sales turnover of ₤15.3 billion ($24.2 billion). Sainsbury has a 17.5% market share in the British supermarket field.
