Billing giant Amdocs (NYSE: DOX) announced today that it plans to set up a new development center in India and expand its development center in Brazil. Industry sources believe that the Indian development center will employ hundreds of engineers.
The decision to expand the Brazilian development center and set up another in India is part of Amdocs's strategy to strengthen its presence in the South American and Asian-Pacific communications markets. The company established an Asia-Pacific business support division for this purpose several months ago.
Amdocs stated that the measure was one of several taken to strengthen its position in emerging markets, and improve its competitiveness and flexibility in providing solutions for its customers. Amdocs added that the measure would also probably help lower both its own costs and those of its customers.
Amdocs currently has development centers in Ireland, St. Louis and San Jose in the US, Germany, Israel, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, and Brazil. These centers are responsible for current customer support, maintenance, and the testing and control of Amdocs products, as well as the development of new products.
The measure announced today complements the strengthening of Amdocs's global deployment. Amdocs carried out a restructuring several months ago, which included the establishment of two new divisions: Offering, responsible for developing and marketing products; and Delivery, responsible for customer relations and routine support.
