The 8,000-sq.m. Carmel Beach Central Bus Station includes 3,000 sq.m. of commercial space.
The Egged bus cooperative today inaugurated its new NIS 140 million Carmel Beach Central Bus Station in Haifa. The new station replaces the central bus station in Kiryat Eliezer.
Egged bought the 47-dunam (11.75-acre) site from the Haifa municipality, designed and built the 8,000-sq.m. station, which includes 3,000 sq.m. of commercial space. Egged chairman Arik Feldman said 70% of the commercial space had been leased.
An underground passage will connect the bus station with the adjacent train station and nearby beach. The station's design includes future links to the southern entrance of the planned Carmel Tunnel, Haifa University cable car, and light railway.
Feldman said the station would help reduce traffic congestion along Haifa's main roads, significantly improving the environment.
