Lieberman pushes for Likud appointees to El Al board

Shareholders may oppose Minister of Transport Avigdor Lieberman.

Mifal Hapayis - Israel National Lottery chairman and CEO Shimon Katznelson and Adv. Yehoshua Neeman are Minister of Transport Avigdor Lieberman's recommendations for external directors at El Al (TASE:ELAL).

Katznelson is an associate and political confidant of MK Omri Sharon (Likud). Neeman is the brother of Dr. Yaakov Neeman, an associate of Lieberman and Minister of Finance Benjamin Netanyahu.

Some of El Al's shareholders, whom Lieberman did not consult about the appointments, argued that El Al should no longer be managed as if it were a government company subject to political interests. The shareholders may oppose the appointments by proposing their own candidates to El Al's board of directors, whom they consider to be better suited professionally.

Lieberman said in response, "The two men are suitable. Their curriculum vitae, education, professional ability and experience will help El Al."
