Earthquake rocks Israel

The earthquake measured 5 on the Richter Scale. There are reports of slight damage to buildings, but no injuries.

Israel was rocked by an earthquake, measuring 5 on the Richter Scale, at 10:13 am today. The epicenter was in the Dead Sea area. Early reports indicate that the earthquake was felt in some degree throughout the country, but there are so far no reports of injuries.

In the past few minutes, sources have informed “Globes” that the earthquake cracked the facades of some buildings in Jerusalem. The Fire Department reports that part of a residential building on Levi Eshkol St. in Kiryat Ono collapsed.

A Police Northern District spokesman said no reports of injuries had been received in the north.

The earthquake caused two cracks in the upper floor of the Knesset building.
