Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO), the world’s largest telecommunications equipment supplier, will use smart cards made by Israeli company SC2 for secure identification on its virtual private networks (VPNs). The value of the deal was not disclosed.

The smart cards are based on the Apollo OS operating system and SC2’s CSP software, which facilitates secure access and identification for Cisco’s VPN networks, based on standard public domain key technology, without any special adaptation.

The new announcement marks continued cooperation between Cisco and SC2. Cisco’s Internet site will soon publish a technical guide to install Apollo OS-based smart cards for enterprise VPN networks.

SC2 is a subsidiary of Nisko Ardan group company Nisko Projects Electronics and Communication (TASE: NSPR). SC2 has 31 employees in its Tel Aviv development center. The company deals in information security, with an emphasis on smart cards for the high-end market that facilitate encoding, verification, and secure signatures.
