QVC buys ORAD virtual studio

Shopping channel QVC reaches 96% of cable households in the US.

ORAD Hi-Tec Systems (Symbol: OHT), announced today that QVC, the leading home shopping retailer, has purchased ORAD's virtual studio system with its Xync infrared tracking system. No value was disclosed.

ORAD's line of products include virtual sets, on-air graphics systems, virtual advertising, sports production solutions and hardware for the visual simulation industry.

By choosing a virtual studio from ORAD, QVC resolved two important issues: first, the need to rapidly change sets for multiple shows, and second, the need to provide different appearances of sets for its various products and shows. In addition to ease of operation, the system features ORAD's patented Xync infrared tracking system, which provides QVC with 360° shooting angles and total freedom in camera movement.

"We are excited about QVC's decision to select ORAD's CyberSet system. A virtual studio provides solutions to many of QVC's unique production requirements. QVC is one of the most advanced and innovative broadcasters in the country, and we are anxious to start developing new and original on-air applications with QVC," said ORAD director of sales Kobi Shina.

"We look forward to the opportunity to incorporate ORAD's cutting edge technology into our program line-up," said Tim Megaw, QVC's senior vice president of broadcasting and TV sales.

QVC, a $5 billion company, is an e-commerce leader, marketing a wide variety of brand name products in such categories as home furnishing, licensed products, fashion, beauty, electronics and fine jewelry. As the leading home shopping retailer, QVC reaches 96% of cable households and 21 million satellite homes in the United States.
