The Walla! website, a subsidiary of “Ha’aretz”, is the most exposed Israeli website, with 55.5% Internet reach (the percentage of the total population or a given target group reached by a website), compared with 38.6% for the “Yediot Ahronot” Ynet site. Among the Israeli economic websites, “Globes” leads with 9.4% Internet reach, compared with 6.9% for “The Marker” , according to a TNS Teleseker survey in May-June. The survey examined the weekly Internet reach of selected Internet sites among a nationwide sample of 844 Internet users aged 13 or more among the Jewish population in Israel.
Israel has 2.7 million Internet users. Walla!’s Internet reach is almost the same as its 55.6% in November 2003. The site has a larger market share, 67.6%, among teenagers. Ynet increased its Internet reach from 32.9% in November 2003. The “Ma’ariv” website had 20.2% Internet reach, but TNS Teleseker noted that most of the survey was conducted before the new NRG “Ma’ariv” site went on the air. Sports news site ONE had 14.2% Internet reach, and the “Ha’aretz” news site had 12%.
The Internet reach of both the “Globes” and “The Marker” sites fell slightly, compared with November 2003, when “Globes” had 10.7% and “The Marker” had 7.3%.
Among non-Israeli sites, Google led with 54.9% Internet reach, while the CNN news website had only 6%.
Taking into account overlapping between its various sites, which include Walla!, “Ha’aretz”, IOL , “The Marker”, and A-Online, the “Ha’aretz” group had 62.9% Internet reach, while the MSN group, which includes MSN , Hotmail in Hebrew and in English, and Start, had 42.5%.
