Israeli company develops environmentally friendly fish cage system

The Office of the Chief Scientist assisted in funding development of the new aquaculture method.

SUBflex Ltd. of Kfar Hess has developed a new method of growing fish in the Mediterranean Sea. The Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor assisted in funding development of the new aquaculture method. The system will operate under the supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The SUBflex fish cage is installed at a depth of 60 meters, and a distance of 14 kilometers from the shore. The storm resistant cages can withstand waves over 15 meters high, and hurricane conditions.

Jacob (Yaakov) Fisher, director of Tnufa, a government program that offers assistance to technological start-ups, said that SUBflex's technology has been tested by experts at the AquaBioTech Group, a leading aquaculture company.
