Xpert installs Oracle on Linux for Maariv NRG site

Xpert Israel general manager Alon Strassman: There's no doubt the user feels the effect of the technology in faster loading pages from the site.

Xpert Integrated Systems applied special technology from Oracle for the first time in Israel in setting up the infrastructure for the new NRG site of the Maariv group. The value of the contract is estimated at more than NIS 1 million. Xpert provides security and continuity solutions to large enterprises and service providers.

News websites have to cope with two main challenges: a very large amount of information; and very large numbers of surfers that want to see the same pages simultaneously. The technology installed by Xpert enables surfers on the NRG Maariv site to enter the site more easily, lightens the traffic load, and facilitates fast retrieval of information from the site's database. For the first time in Israel, an Oracle database of a large commercial size was installed on a Linux operating system.

Xpert Israel general manager Alon Strassman says that "there is no doubt that the special technology enables the thousands of users to surf the site better. Its effect is seen in fast loading of pages from the site, and in the ability to retrieve information more quickly. To answer the challenge, the site data is routed to the various ISPs using a content distribution network (CDN) system. This considerably shortens the process of viewing pages on the site. The surfer doesn't go from his or her ISP to Maariv's ISP, but views the site at the ISP that connects him or her to the web. As well as this, we made innovative use of the Oracle database in its Linux configuration, for the first time in Israel, and that makes information retrieval efficient and fast."
