The 4,000-dunam (1,000-acre) project is planned as a regional commercial, recreational, and sports center.
The National Planning and Building Board subcommittee for matters of principle has approved a plan for a new project for a vacation and commercial zone at Shokat Junction. Investment in the new project will total NIS 200 million.
The zone will be a joint commercial, leisure, and vacation project of the communities Meitar, Hora, Laqye, and the Bnei Shimon Regional Council. The 4,000-dunam (1,000-acre) project, which will stretch from the eastern approaches to Beer Sheva to Shokat Junction, will include commercial buildings, warehouses, and public buildings. The project is planned as a regional commercial, recreational, and sports center.
The project is located at a key crossroads between Beer Sheva and Hebron, and between Arad and Lehavim Junction and the Yitzhak Rabin Highway (Highway No. 6), also known as the “Cross Israel Highway”, due to be extended to the area, with its parallel railway line. The plan was coordinated with the four local authorities involved.
