Suny Electronics will continue its exclusive marketing in Israel of Samsung wireless devices.
Samsung (KSE: 830) has extended by two years its exclusive distribution agreement for Israel with Suny Electronics (TASE: SUNY). Suny imports Samsung-made global system for mobiles (GSM) devices to Israel. Suny’s previous exclusive distribution agreement with Samsung expires this month. GSM devices are used in both Partner Communications (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR; LSE: PCCD) and Cellcom’s networks.
Suny also has the exclusive right to market code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless devices. This agreement, signed in December 2003, expires in January 2008. Pele-Phone uses these devices.
Suny believes that the launching of Pele-Phone’s 3G network last week will help it to sell 300,000 3G devices in 2005, amounting to 15% of the new devices in the market. Suny VP marketing Orly Dekel predicted that Samsung would achieve a 40% share in the market for 3G devices, through the sale of evolution data only (EvDO) and universal mobile telecommunications systems (UMTS) devices.
