Hatzi Hinam supermarkets had an estimated NIS 1.1 billion in sales in 2004.
Hatzi Hinam is Israeli’s leading independent supermarket chain, with estimated sales of NIS 1.1 billion in 2004, according to a rating of the ten leading independent chains, the first of its kind, published today in “Globes”.
Independent chains account for 15% of organized retail food sales, amounting to NIS 4.5-4.6 billion. Eight of the ten leading chains compete mostly in discount pricing. Two are niche chains: non-kosher food (Tiv Taam) and glatt kosher (Birkat Haaretz). Following Hatzi Hinam in the rating are Tiv Taam, Co-Op Jerusalem Supermarket Chain, Rami Levy, Birkat Haaretz, Yad Itzhak, Abba Victory, Haviv, Metro Market, and Mania Delicatessen Trade Networks.
During 2004, independent supermarkets opened new branches with 50,000 sq.m. of floor space, and their growth is expected to continue in 2005.
