Knesset tells Tel Aviv municipality to save Sharona

"The Knesset views the Sharona compound as a site of vital historical and architectural importance, which are milestones in the history of the settlement of the country and of the state."

The Knesset plenum last week passed a decision proposed by most Knesset factions, instructing the Tel Aviv municipality and Israel Land Administration (ILA) to immediately halt all irreversible actions in the historic Templar colony in the Sharona neighborhood of Tel Aviv, for the south Ministry of Defense headquarters (the Kirya) compound project.

The decision was passed unanimously, following a debate initiated by MK Gideon Saar (Likud).

The Knesset decision states, "The Knesset views the Sharona compound as a site of vital historical and architectural importance, which are milestones in the history of the settlement of the country and of the state."

MK Yossi Said (Yahad) said proof of this importance was the unity of all Knesset factions on the subject, which all take a grave view of the behavior of the Tel Aviv municipality in this matter."
