Egyptian ambassador to Israel Mohammed Assam Ibrahim today presented his credentials to President Moshe Katsav. The Jordanian ambassador to Israel presented his credentials to Katsav earlier in the day.
Senior sources in the Moroccan capital of Rabat said that diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco would be officially renewed in April, when the two countries would exchange diplomatic representatives. Morocco recalled its representative from Israel when the second intifada broke out.
King Mohammed VI and his brother met with Vice-Premier Shimon Peres in Madrid at an anti-terrorism conference marking the anniversary of the attacks against the railway in the city. At the same time, Minister of Foreign Affairs and deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom met in Geneva last week with his Moroccan counterpart, Mohamed Benaissa. Although the meetings were held in public, the Moroccan media gave them no special coverage.
The sources added that contacts at various levels between the two countries had not been discontinued, and that agricultural cooperation had not stopped since Morocco opened a representative office in Israel (and in the Palestinian Authority) in 1994, following the signing of the Oslo agreements.
