Israeli start-up Zend and Oracle to launch integrated PHP-DB application

Zend CEO Doron Gerstel: PHP developers will have all they need to build enterprise database applications.

Israeli start-up Zend Technologies today announced that it has partnered with Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) to produce Zend Core for Oracle, a free download that will integrate Oracle Database and Zend’s supported PHP environment.

Oracle is the world’s largest enterprise software company. Zend and its founders CEO Doron Gerstel, Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski are the architects of Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP), an open-source web scripting language used for developing applications. PHP is one of the fastest growing scripting languages today, and is used by over 15 million web sites.

Gerstel said, "Over 20% of Zend’s customers are creating applications using Oracle Database, demonstrating the suitability of PHP as the backbone of enterprise applications. Through our partnership with Oracle, PHP developers now have access to all the solutions necessary to build and deploy highly-reliable applications for the enterprise.”

Zend Core for Oracle is scheduled for availability in the third quarter of 2005. Zend will offer support and updates for Zend Core for Oracle, which will be compatible with Zend’s existing products such as Zend Platform and Zend Studio.

Oracle, in partnership with Zend, also launched the PHP developer center on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) website at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/index.html. The site features various technical resources for PHP developers.

Zend, headquartered in Cupertino, California, is a privately held company. Key customers include Lufthansa, Disney, Electronic Arts, Boeing and Orange. Zend is funded by Azure Capital Partners, Index Ventures, Intel Capital, Platinum Venture Capital, SAP Ventures and Walden Venture Capital (Israel).
