Delek Motors Ltd., the importer of Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F; LSE:FDM) and Mazda (TSE:7261), delivered 6,700 vehicles in May, according to a study by "Globes".
This is the largest number of monthly deliveries by a single importer, and 25% more than the total number of vehicle deliveries in April. Delek Motors' turnover was NIS 800 million (including taxes) in May, the first month of the 2006 models.
4,400 Mazda vehicles were delivered in May, a record for a single brand. 2,300 Ford vehicles were delivered, including 1,200 new-generation Focus family sedans.
Other importers also reported record deliveries for May, although substantially lower than Delek Motors'. The Hyundai (KSE:11760) agency delivered 3,200 vehicles, a monthly record. The Toyota Motor Company (NYSE:TM; LSE:TYT: TSE:7203) agency delivered over 2,000 vehicles.
Universal Motors Israel Ltd. (UMI) delivered 1,600 vehicles in May, including 1,300 Chevrolets. David Lubinsky Ltd. is expected to deliver over 2,000 vehicles, including 1,300 commercial vehicles. The Renault (Paris: RENA) agency is expected to deliver 1,200 vehicles this month.
Industry sources say the vehicle deliveries report, to be published tomorrow, will indicate over 20,000 vehicle sales, a monthly record. The large number of sales was largely due to heavy demand by rental and leasing agencies, which almost completely halted purchases in March and April. Another factor was heavy demand for commercial vehicles, caused by the cancellation of the VAT credit for commercial vehicles on June 1.
