The company has established its first foothold in the Far East.
Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) unit Bezeq International Ltd. is expanding its international operations as a direct follow-on of the deployment of its undersea cable. The company has established a point of presence in Hong Kong, its first foothold in the Far East, for customers seeking communications services with Israel.
Bezeq International has previously said that it was considering expanding its undersea cable network to the Far East, in view of the increase in Internet traffic in the region. Bezeq International is the first Israeli telecommunications company to establish a physical presence in the Far East. The point of presence was established at a site of global IBX data center Equinix Ltd. in Hong Kong's financial district. The site is connected to over 50 infrastructure providers, giving Bezeq International access to international carriers such as Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd. (NYSE: HTX; HKSE: 2332), China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (NYSE: CHA; HKSE: 728), and PCCW Ltd. (HKSE: 0008). Until the establishment of the Hong Kong point of presence, communications between Israel and the Far East were handled through Bezeq International's point of presences in Europe.
