Car deliveries hit all-time high in March

23,927 new cars were delivered in March, 30% more than March 2013.

The number of new vehicle deliveries rose to an-all time high of 23,927 in March 2014, 30% more than in March 2013. New vehicle deliveries totaled 72,392 in the first quarter, 26% more than in the corresponding quarter.

The increase in vehicle deliveries in March was due to increased purchases by leasing companies ahead of the Passover tourist season, as well as for customers and stockpiling. Importers have also launched aggressive sales campaigns since the beginning of the year.

Hyundai had the most deliveries in the first quarter, at 9,257, 1.7% fewer than in the corresponding quarter. Toyota was in second place, with 8,074 deliveries, up 61%; Kia Motors was in third place, with 7,051 deliveries, up 31%; Mazda was in fourth place, with 5,972 deliveries, up 82%; and Suzuki was in fifth place, with 4,167 deliveries, up 46%.

Car importers expect April to be another strong month, because of strategic sales campaigns, including by Mazda and Ford importer Delek Automotive Systems Ltd. (TASE: DLEA) with Hever (the IDF and security forces servicemen and pensioners NGO).
