Cloud security co FireLayers raises several millions dollars

FireLayers attempts to improve enterprises' control of content accessible by users.

Cloud IT security company FireLayers Ltd. has launched its product and raised several million dollars from its co-founders, CEO Yair Grindlinger and president Doron Elgressy, and YL Ventures, which led the company's first financing round.

FireLayers is Grindlinger and Elgressy's fourth IT security start-up. Their current solution is an attempt to improve enterprises' control of content accessible by users. In contrast to the past, when such content coming from the Internet in which the gateway to the enterprise's network dealt with problems from the Internet or users' conduct, FireLayers' entrepreneurs believe that the use of the cloud - remote computer servers - is the current source of threats to enterprises.

"It is now necessary to build the gateway to handle cloud solutions," says Grindlinger. FireLayers' platform is designed to handle, analyze, and secure all use of the cloud, from communications (such as e-mail), through storage (box), and enterprise applications (such as Salesforce.com).

As enterprises' IT security problems move to the cloud, there has been a jump in the number of cloud security start-ups in the past two years. In January, Adallom Ltd., which develops solutions for protecting information in SaaS applications and cloud services, raised $15 million.

As for YL Ventures, run by managing partner Yoav Andrew Leitersdorf, this is its first investment since it raised $27.5 million for its second fund.
