The electric Qoros 3 is expected to be much cheaper than the Tesla Model 3 due to be launched late next year.
Three years after the collapse of electric car venture Better Place, which was based on battery-swapping stations, Idan Ofer is backing another such venture, this time in electric car manufacture. At the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, which opened last week, Qoros, owned by the Kenon group and China's Chery Automobile, unveiled an electric family saloon that will enter production next year. Ofer controls Kenon. The car is based on the Qoros 3, and is equipped with a latest-generation battery that is supposed to give a 350 kilometer maximum range between charges.
The vehicle is said to accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in seven seconds. Its maximum speed is limited to 162 kilometers per hour. In dimensions and range, the car is set to rival the new Tesla Model 3 which is due to be launched late next year and which will probably be considerably more expensive.
Qoros also exhibited in Guangzhou a crossover sedan, also based on the Qoros 3, and further developments of the engine with no camshaft that it unveiled last year.
