The average Israeli high-tech salary has risen by 3.5% over the past year to NIS 23,800 gross per month according to high-tech and startup employment solutions and placement firm see.V.
The rise in the average salary is no surprise considering Israel's flourishing high-tech industry ecosystem. In 2014, 688 Israeli startups raised an all-time record of $3.4 billion, according to IVC, and in the first quarter of 2015, 166 startups raised $1 billion. This big money is also being translated into exits, including IPOs, which totaled $5.3 billion in the first half of 2015.
The good news is that it is not only the venture capital funds and startups that are profiting from this booming market - employees are also benefitting. see.V has presented figures about high-tech salaries in the first half of 2015, which reflect euphoria in the market.
see.V VP marketing Yoav Melamed said, "Each day we even see that candidates with mediocre professional capabilities with three generous contractual offers on the table and they only have to choose."
He added, "Today it is easier than ever to ask for and receive share options or a short work week. An average candidate with five years of experience will be asked to at least five job interviews. At the same time selection processes have been shortened and streamlined, so that candidates frequently start working less than two weeks after sending their curriculum vitae. High-tech is undoubtedly moving further ahead from the rest of the economy and the party is not about to end."
The top earning job in high-tech is for algorithm developers who earn a monthly salary of NIS 18,000-21,000 with just two years of experience. A team leader in this field with several years of experience can earn an average of NIS 32,000 per month (all figures are gross). The second highest paying job is DevOps who with more than six years of experience can earn NIS 28,000 per month. In third place are Java developers with a starting salary of NIS 14-18,000, growing to NIS 24,000 after 3-5 years.
High tech is concentrated in Greater Tel Aviv
Growing smartphone use has boosted demand for mobile app developers, according to see.V with job opportunities in this sector up 50%. The average salary of mobile developers (android and iOS) in this sector in the first half of 2015 was between NIS 20,000 and NIS 27,000 per month. A Team leader earns more than NIS 28,000.
Anybody familiar with Israel's high tech industry knows that the startup nation is mainly found in Greater Tel Aviv. see.V also investigated the geographical spread of new jobs in the first half of 2015, which backed this up. 44% of high-tech jobs are in Tel Aviv and 15% are in Herzliya Pituach. 7% of jobs are in Petah Tikva, 6% in Ramat Gan and 5% in Ra'anana.
Demand for Israeli high-tech professionals extends beyond Israel, see-V found. Employees are being hired to work in New York, Berlin and even Bangkok. "Relocation jobs are one of the interesting trends of 2015," Melamed said. "More and more countries are hearing about large made in Israel startup exits and rather than reinventing the wheel they prefer to buy it. Overseas companies choose to import team leaders and development managers who are proving themselves. Israeli jobseekers are also more open than ever to the option of working overseas for a couple of years, especially if they are single. When we advertise these jobs, we get a higher than average number of cvs."
