The Israeli singer was found guilty of failing to report income of NIS 6 million.
Israeli singer Kobi Peretz has been handed a two year prison sentence and fined NIS 17,500 after being found guilty on tax evasion. He failed to report income of more than NIS 6 million. Tel Aviv Magistrates Court Judge Limor Margalin-Yehidi ordered that start of the punishment be delayed until June 30 to allow Peretz to appeal.
The judge rejected Peretz's appeal for a more lenient sentence because he frequently performs gratis for soldiers and the disadvantaged. The State prosecutor had asked for a sentence of four years and NIS 200,000 fine, which took into account the gravity of the crime and sophisticated planning behind the offense.
Peretz's attorney had asked for a lighter sentence due to Peretz's contribution to the community and the severe harms already caused him by the media coverage.
