The attack began with a van running over pedestrians and continued with stabbings.
At least seven people were killed and 48 injured last night in a terror attack in London, Walla! News reports. The attack began at about 22:00 British Summer Time when a white van ran people over on London Bridge, and continued with a rampage of stabbings by several men who emerged from the van, in Borough Market, a nearby area of pubs and restaurants. The Metropolitan Police said three attackers were shot dead within eight minutes of the attack being reported. The police said that the men were wearing fake bomb vests.
The attack comes five days before the UK is due to hold a General Election, and two weeks after the terrorist bombing in Manchester that left 22 people dead.
No organization has so far claimed responsibility for last night's attack, but supporters of Islamic State celebrated it on social networks. Islamic State did claim responsibility for the Manchester suicide bombing, and threatened to carry out further attacks.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May called the attack "dreadful" and Leader of the Opposition Jeremy Corbyn said it was "brutal and shocking". May's Conservative Party has suspended election campaigning.
