Media sharing app co WhipClip raises $16m

Following this latest financing round, the company will enlarge its development center in Herzliya.

New media app developer WhipClip has raised $16 million at a company value of $100 million. The company, led by entrepreneurs Ron Zuckerman and Ori Birnbaum, was founded in July 2014, when it raised $6 million, at a company value of $20 million.

The company's investors include Institutional Venture Partners, Raine Ventures, Greycroft Partners, William Morris Endeavor and private investors such as Steve Bornstein, a former ESPN and ABC president.

WhipClip is headquartered in Los Angeles and has a development center in Herzliya, which employs 15 engineers and software specialists. Following this latest financing round the company will enlarge the Israeli development center.

The company is developing an app that lets users share clips of TV shows in real time through social media. The app also allows users to create personal video content clips and share them on social media. WhipClip offers a search engine that can find TV and video content almost immediately through search words.

The company is currently developing a beta version with major media networks such as CBS, ABC and the Oprah Winfrey Channel.
