Netanya plans 43,000 more apartments by 2035

The plan will boost the city's population from 220,000 today to 320,000.

The Netanya Local Planning and Building Commission has approved an outline plan for the city to build 43,000 apartments in the city, boosting its population from 220,000 today to 320,000. The plan will increase the number of housing units in the city from the current 67,000 to 110,000 by doubling building percentages.

One of the plans in the city outline plan covers an 800-dunam (200 acre) area in the city center. 3,000 apartments and 250,000 square meters of commercial and office space have been approved for this area, owned by 1,000 private landowners.

The outline plans also calls for the doubling of Netanya's commercial and office space from 3 million square meters in current approved plans to 4 million square meters by 2024 and 6 million square meters by 2045 on land owned by the Israel Land Authority. The Netanya Municipality says that the plan emphasizes links between business areas between the city's eastern and western parts. The plan increases land for public institutions to 2,800 dunam (700 acres) and increasing open public space in the city by over 500 dunam (125 acres).
