The Bank of Israel has provided manufacturers, suppliers, and operators of vending, counting, and sorting machines with initial examples of the new NIS 200 bills for the purpose of calibrating their machines to handle them. The new bills will enter circulation in the next few months.
"This measure is part of a prolonged process aimed at enabling these parties to make advance technical and operational preparations for the entry of the new series of bills into circulation," the Bank of Israel said. "The examples of the bills were provided in order to facilitate calibration of the machines, as was done prior to the entry into circulation of the new NIS 50 bill in September 2014."
The bank is expected to publish later the final design of the bill, as well as comprehensive explanatory material about the security marks on it. The existing bills will continue in circulation for a number of years.
The new bill will be colored blue, and will bear a portrait of legendary Israeli poet Natan Alterman.
