The children of the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the spiritual leader of Shas, will put up for sale his Jerusalem apartment at 45 Hakablan Street in Jerusalem's Har Nof neighborhood, one year after his death. The 340-square meter apartment with a 113-square meter balcony has no mortgage.
"Rabbi Ovadia Yosef had no assets, other than the apartment on Hakablan Street. It is an expensive apartment, which had he lived in it, would be worth NIS 6.5 million," a source close to the family told "Globes". "The family has received an offer of NIS 9.5 million, but that is irrelevant, as the children are in no hurry to file a request for an inheritance order, until they settle their affairs. The matter is very sensitive, because some of his children strongly need the money, and others do not."
The source added, "It is important to the family that the buyer won't try to do business, buying the apartment in order to sell it later at a profit."
Ovadia Yosef had 11 children. He died aged 93 in October 2013. His son, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef died six months before he did, leaving eight children.
