The wholesale price of a kilogram of tomatoes has hit NIS 9.40-9.80.
The wholesale price of a kilogram of tomatoes has risen 80% within a week to hit NIS 9.40-9.80. The wholesale price of cherry tomatoes has risen 12% over the same period to NIS 6.20-6.50 per kilogram, and is now 35% less than regular tomatoes.
Despite the jump in the wholesale prices, most supermarkets have not yet raised the retail price of tomatoes and are selling them at a loss. Rami Levy Chain Stores Hashikma Marketing 2006 Ltd. (TASE:RMLI) is selling tomatoes at at NIS 3.80 per kilogram and at NIS 1.80 per kilogram for purchases of over NIS 100.
