Siano awarded major Japanese iPhone order

The mobile TV chip maker will power iPhone's mobile TV in Japan.

Leading mobile TV chip maker Siano Mobile Silicon announced today that its multi-standard MDTV receiver chip is powering the newly launched iPhone 3G accessory in Japan. It will support ISDB-T One Seg television broadcasting. SoftBank BB Corporation (TSE: 9984) and SoftBank Mobile Corporation, which officially launched the innovative iPhone 3G 'TV and Battery' on December 31 in Japan.

The iPhone 3G accessory can be sold with every new iPhone 3G and also as an after-market accessory.

The iPhone 3G accessory streams digital television to the iPhone 3G via Wi-Fi, based on Siano’s SMS1100 chip, which supports ISDB-T One Seg the mobile TV broadcasting standard of Japan. In addition to mobile TV, the iPhone 3G accessory can provide redundant power for the iPhone 3G battery, practically functioning as a charger-on-the-go.

SoftBank BB's iPhone 3G Sales Manager, Tomotaka Nakagawa said, “The iPhone 3G is all about having fun. The iPhone 3G TV accessory represents a major design win for Siano in Japan, following the launch of its SMS1100 receiver chip with support for ISDB-T early in 2008, and the opening of its Japan offices in July. Only two weeks ago Siano was selected to power CMMB mobile TV for leading Chinese phone makers ZTE, Tianyu, CEC Telecom and MP3/4 giant AIGO.
