Aqwise and partners get EU Eureka grant

The companies will jointly develop an aerobic/anaerobic hybrid wastewater treatment system.

Aqwise Wise Water Technologies Ltd. and its European partner have obtained a NIS 2.8 million grant from the EU Eureka R&D program to jointly develop a combined anaerobic and aerobic reactor system for treating wastewater. One element of the system is oxygen-based; the other is not.

The companies will develop a dynamic anaerobic aerobic reactor (DANA) that will enable, for the first time, the integration of anaerobic and aerobic processes in one vertical configuration.

Aqwise will develop the system and its Dutch partners will integrate the system. Development is due to be completed by the end of 2010. The system is designed to help sewage treatment companies reduce the number of treatment tanks. Aqwise develops wastewater treatment systems for industries and municipalities.

Aqwise's investors include Israel Cleantech Ventures Funds, IDB Holding Corp. Ltd. (TASE:IDBH) unit Elron Electronic Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: ELRN; TASE: ELRN), and Ahamsa Corporation, which owns 55% of the company.
