Minister of National Infrastructures Benjamin Ben-Eliezer yesterday signed the first two licenses to produce and supply electricity by solar energy facilities.
The first license was awarded to EDIG Construction Management Ltd. subsidiary Aora Ltd., which has built a thermosolar energy facility, with a capacity of up to 100 kilowatts, at Kibbutz Samar in the Arava Valley. The second license was awarded to Arava Power Company, which will build a photovoltaic facility with a capacity of up to 4.9 megawatts at Kibbutz Ketura in the Arava Valley.
The two licenses are conditional, and the companies will receive permanent licenses if they meet stipulated criteria.
After signing the licenses, Ben-Eliezer said this was an important milestone in the solar energy revolution in Israel. "I welcome these first licenses as symbols of the entry of many private power producers into the renewable energy market."
