The sale of Vita-Galilee Fruit Ltd. (Vita-Pri Galil) (TASE: VITA) to Zaki Shalom and Zvi Kuperly, the owners of independent supermarket chain Kol Bo Hazi Hinam Ltd., has hit a snag. At today's court hearing on the sale, Vita's unsecured creditors objected to the deal on the grounds that it did not include them.
The issue of the continued employment of Vita's employees also came up during the hearing. Although Kuperly and Shalom said that they had agreed to hire only the employees of Vita itself, Vita's trustee said that the deal included the employees of the company's subsidiaries as well.
140 Vita employees hired through an employment agency also filed their objections with the court today. These employees, all residents of the Galilee town of Kfar Tuba, said that, because they had been employed by Vita for more than the nine months stipulated by law, they were entitled to be recognized as regular employees, and therefore eligible for benefits and recognition in any settlement for Vita.
