India launches IAI-produced spy satellite

The deal is estimated to be worth $170 million.

The military cooperation between Israel and India continues to bear fruit. This morning, the Indians launched a sophisticated spy satellite produced by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Channel 2 reports.

According to reports, the satellite, which bears the name "RESAT 2", is capable of transmitting radar images in all weather conditions. The deal is estimated to be worth some $170 million.

Casting a shadow on this latest deal between Israel and India is the report in yesterday's "Observer" newspaper that a London businessman who was a middleman between the Indian Ministry of Defense and IAI received improper payments. According to the report, the businessman in question,Sudhir Choudhrie, is an important contributor to the Liberal Party in the UK, the party that two months ago called for an end to arms deals with Israel
