Axxana teams with EMC on data recording solution

The Phoenix enterprise data recording system is integrated with EMC product Recover Point.

Axxana Ltd. has formally announced that it is working with EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) to test Axxana's enterprise data recording (EDR) solution, Phoenix System, with EMC products. Axxana raised $4 million in April.

Enterprise data recording is a sub-field of disaster recovery planning (DRP). Axxana said from the beginning that it wanted to collaborate with as many data storage companies as it could; EMC is the first venture announced.

Axxana's Phoenix system was developed in parallel with Recover Point, a system developed by Israeli start-up Kashya, which EMC acquired in 2006 for $153 million and now forms the core of EMC's R&D center in Israel. Recover Point is a software interface for sending data flow to storage. The advantage of working with Kashya's solution is that it makes the differences between various storage systems transparent for the Phoenix. The disadvantage is the dependence it creates on EMC, at least until Axxana develops a corresponding interface for competing software companies.

Axxana founder and CEO Eli Eftat said that the company's collaboration with EMC was at the product and development level.

The collaboration will reportedly expand to marketing and EMC may sell Axxana's product as a supplement to its own system.
