Northern section of Road 6 to open next month

The new section will shorten the travel time between the center of the country and the Western Galilee.

The northern section of Road 6 (the Cross-Israel Highway) will open in mid-July. Known as section 18, the new stretch will run from the Iron Interchange east of Hadera to the Tut Interchange east of Zichron Ya'akov. The new section will shorten the journey time from the center of the country to the Western Galilee. The news of the impending opening of the highway was announced by Minister of Transport Israel Katz.

Section 18 is 17 kilometers long, of which 2.5 kilometers are tunnels.

With the opening of section 18 in the north, Road 6 will be 140 kilometers in length starting from near the Bet Kama Interchange in the south on highway 40 between Kiryat Gat and Be'er Sheva.

Sources inform "Globes" that the Ministry of Transport has instructed Derech Eretz Highways (1997) Ltd., which operates Road 6, to continue operating the two southern sections of the highway south of the Sorek Interchange, at least until September, when it will be decided if they can collect a toll for these sections.
