Cleantech co EmefCy in talks on large pharma plant pilot

CEO Levy: EmefCy technology gives an economically feasible solution for highly concentrated and saline wastewater.

Cleantech start-up EmefCy Ltd. is in advanced talks to run a pilot of its technology for the production of electricity from biological wastewater treatment, at the plant of a leading Israeli pharmaceutical company.

EmefCy was founded by CEO Eytan Levy and Ronen Schechter, who earlier co-founded AqWise Ltd. . They presented EmefCy’s prototype at CleanTech 2009 - 13th International CleanTech Exhibition in Tel Aviv this week.

In April, CNET mentioned EmefCy in an article as a company worthy of investment as part of the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) program.

Levy says that EmefCy technology gives an economically feasible solution for highly concentrated and saline wastewater, such as the wastewater created by the pharmaceutical and biodiesel industries.

EmefCy operates 15 small modules at its laboratory in Caesarea. The modules treat various types of industrial wastewater, including one module that treats pharmaceutical wastewater, and another that treats the wastewater of a chemicals plan.
