Rivals target iPhone-less Cellcom's customers

In contrast to Partner and Pelephone, Cellcom will not be launching iPhone.

Partner Communications Co. Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE:PTNR; LSE:PCCD) is launching an aggressive marketing campaign ahead of its introduction of iPhone. The campaign is directed mainly at Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) customers because the cellular operator will not be launching iPhone.

Sources inform "Globes" that Partner has already taken a first step by contacting Cellcom's customers and offering them a SIM card for NIS 9.90 per month as a precondition for registering for the handset. This step follows the registration of its own customers who want iPhones.

Partner's marketing assault follows a similar ploy by Bezeq Israel Telecommunications Company Ltd. (TASE:BZEQ) unit Pelephone Communications Ltd., which announced that pre-registration for iPhone's will cost NIS 360. Customers who want to be certain of receiving an iPhone must pay NIS 360 and will receive a reduction in payments when they get the handset.
